At Windsor Community Primary School all pupils have the same entitlement to the whole school curriculum, and we are committed to making this as accessible as possible, irrespective of any special educational need or disability. Our aim is to remove barriers to learning and participation, and provide a broad and fulfilling educational experience which prepares each individual for adulthood. This includes the Foundation stage and National Curriculum in line with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice (2015).

We recognise the importance of the early identification of children who may be facing challenges or difficulties in accessing the curriculum and/or in their personal and social development. We are committed to ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive. We follow the Graduated Approach, which means we provide help that is tailored and responsive to each child’s individual needs. Central to this is the Assess, Plan, Do, Review (APDR) cycle. First, we assess a child’s strengths and areas of need, then plan targeted strategies and interventions in partnership with parents and specialists. Next, we do—put the plan into action and provide the agreed support. Finally, we review progress regularly, making adjustments as needed to ensure the child continues to make progress. This ongoing cycle helps us work closely with families and professionals to create the best possible learning experience for every child.

At Windsor, we know that the impact of  SEND support can be strengthened by increasing parental engagement in the approaches and teaching strategies that are being used. We therefore value and welcome the essential information on the impact of SEND support outside school, as well as the parents/carers particular knowledge of their child/young person. We work in partnership with our parents and families and to ensure that they are fully informed about all matters relating to their child’s SEND.

If you have any concerns about your child, initially, please contact your child’s class teacher who will arrange to meet you and discuss your child and provide advice. The class teacher will then inform our SENDCO, Mrs Griffiths, who will then offer further support strategies and or interventions and if necessary signpost to outside agencies.

If your child is added to the school SEND register, you will be consulted and have the opportunity to meet with Mrs Griffiths.
